The Cotter City Council last night appointed a new city recorder-treasurer following a resignation in that office last month and two members of the council were named to represent the city in discussions regarding future plans of the Cotter-Gassville Rural Fire Protection District. 

The fire district, headquartered off County Road 1 in the Wildcat Shoals area, hopes to become an independent fire department, but before that request can be brought before the Baxter County Quorum Court for approval, some issues have to be worked out with the cities of Cotter and Gassville. A committee has been formed to discuss the issues and will hold its first meeting Monday evening.
