At last night's meeting of the Bull Shoals City Council, Dick Baxter, a deer biologist from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission addressed council members who are considering an annual deer hunt within the city limits. Mayor Bruce Powell says Baxter told the council an annual hunt, rather than the current every other year hunt, would be beneficial in reducing the population of the herd. The council will consider an ordinance for an annual deer hunt, according to Powell.
In other new business the city council discussed replacing broken cameras in city offices and placing cameras in offices that don't yet have them; agreed to accept the new property insurance; considered salaries for the municipal judge, prosecutor and city attorney; agreed to allow the Director of Public Works to research a new truck for purchase and to place a down payment on it until the council can meet to approve the purchase. Also in new business the council appointed Carol Short to a five year term as Chair of the Planning and Zoning commission and appointed Darrell Lindman to fill a vacancy on that commission. The council heard and passed the first reading of an ordinance redefining the fire department's pay structure and meeting schedule and another for violations against the fire department.
