A report from the Arkansas Department of Education, covering the 2009-2010 school year, indicates that nearly all schools in the Ozarks either meet or exceed state standards with a number of them rated as schools of excellence.
The ratings, on scale of 1 to 5, are based upon overall student achievement results from the 2009-2010 Benchmark Exams and End-of-Course exams in Algebra 1, Geometry, and 11th-grade literacy.
Area schools receiving the top rating of 5 included elementary schools at Cotter, Mountain Home, Norfork, Mountain View, Valley Springs, Omaha, Leslie, Bergman, and Harrison and middle schools at Valley Springs and Bergman.
Schools that achieved a ranking of 4 included Mountain Home Junior High, Mountain Home High Career Academies, Norfork High School, Cotter High School, Flippin’s Elementary and Middle Schools, and Yellville-Summit’s elementary, middle, and high schools.
Schools that exceeded standards were Harrison Junior and senior highs, Bruno-Pyatt Elementary, Jasper Elementary, Kingston High School, Alpena Elementary, Marshall High School, Valley Springs High School, Mount Judea Elementary, Mountain View High School, Alpena High School, Lead Hill Elementary, St. Joe Elementary, Western Grove Elementary, Jasper High School, Deer High School, Western Grove High School, and Omaha High School.
No school from this area were rated a 2, approaching standards, or a 1, which indicated a "need for immediate improvement."
