On the same day that the CEO of Skaggs Regional Medical Center announced the hospital is for sale, the hospital announced that they are doing away with open heart surgery beginning in March.
William Mahoney told reporters that the decision would mean the elimination of three positions from the hospital payroll including that of a surgeon. He said they would transfer other staff members in the department to other positions within the hospital.
Mahoney said the hospital did not have to cancel surgeries because of the cost saving decision.
