A count of the homeless in Stone County found 45 unsheltered people, about a third of whom are living in campers with no water or electricity. Project Officer Gary Scharberg of Christian Associates says 32 adults and 13 children are among the unsheltered homeless located during last week’s Point in Time count, some living in cardboard boxes or sleeping in cars…
Scharberg says there are also 62 sheltered homeless in Stone County, including 33 children. Among them are the temporary residents of a domestic violence shelter, and those living in transitional housing. Many of those individuals are receiving help through a homelessness prevention program. For more information, contact Christian Associates at 417-739-3200.
