Forsyth aldermen will hold a public hearing December 3rd before voting on final approval of a plan to place a sales tax proposal on the municipal ballot in April. Mayor Mike Chipman says the proposed one-quarter of one-percent tax is needed to fund the fire department…
Chipman says if the tax is approved, the additional 25 cents for every 100 dollars spent would mean an estimated 75 to 80-thousand dollars a year in revenue. The proposal specifies half to go toward capital improvements and equipment, and half for fire department operations. According to Chipman, an estimated 300 to 400-thousand dollars over a 10 year period could be held in reserve for those capital improvement expenditures.
