Specialist Joseph A. Richardson, 23-years-old, was part of the 1^st Battalion, 28^th Infantry Regiment, 4^th Brigade Combat Team, 1^st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, Kansas.  Sergeant Channing B Hicks of Greer, South Carolina, was the second soldier killed.  According to the DOD, enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
