Forsyth aldermen met last night with a public hearing scheduled on a proposed sales tax to fund the fire department.
The item is proposed for the Forsyth municipal ballot next April. Mayor Mike Chipman says if approved by voters, half the proceeds from the proposed quarter-cent sales tax would go toward operations, with the other half put in reserve for capital expenditures.
The proposal contains a 10 year sunset provision.
Other items on tonight’s agenda include employee pay raises and the hiring of a finance officer.
