Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) instructors Dr. Eddie Dry and Dr. Nancy Smith were selected by the Twin Lakes community in a recent poll as the best college instructors of the Twin Lakes area. The Baxter Bulletin announced the winners for “The Baxter Bulletin Best of the Twin Lakes 2012” in November.

Dr. Eddie Dry, ASUMH biology instructor, earned the award, “2012 Best College Instructor.” He began his career with ASUMH when the campus was first established in 1997. “The most rewarding part about teaching is being able to work with groups of creative, focused, dedicated and energetic students. I love that about my job,” said Dr. Dry.

Dr. Nancy Smith accepted the award for the “2012 Runner-Up College Instructor.” Dr. Smith is a site coordinator and dental hygiene assistant professor for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) for the dental hygiene program on the ASU-Mountain Home campus. She joined ASUMH’s dental hygiene program in July of 2009.

“What I have loved about teaching is getting to see how the students transform from knowing nothing about the skills we are introducing to them to being competent. The look of pride they have when a patient tells them how good a job they did cleaning their teeth is priceless. Knowing I helped get them there is my reward. I want my students to be the best and to know they should only want to do their best. Their rewards will come from that throughout their career,” said Dr. Smith.
