The Boone County Quorum Court Tuesday affirmed that the sheriff’s department had the right to fire one of its deputies.
Former Boone County Deputy Bobby Reese told the court during the grievance hearing that he believed politics led to his firing by then sheriff Danny Hickman in December. Reese had expressed support for Mike Moore, Hickman’s opponent in the November election.
Testimony from members of the sheriff’s office indicated that Reese was let go for failing to follow direct orders and failing to respond to radio calls.
The purpose of the court hearing was to determine whether the sheriff had a legal and constitutional right to fire Reese. The court decided the sheriff did in fact have that right.
