Missouri and Arkansas are among the highest ranked states for dog ownership.
The American Veterinary Medical Association says Arkansas ranks highest with 47-point-9 percent of households owning a dog. In Missouri, dogs are owned by 45-point-9 percent of households.
When it comes to overall pet ownership, Arkansas makes the top 10, coming in 7th at 62-point-4 percent. Missouri is not on that list.
The lowest rate of pet ownership is in the District of Columbia, which also has the lowest percentage of households with dogs or cats.
