The Green Forest City Council’s efforts to beautify one of the city’s main thoroughfares met with opposition from citizens who filled council chambers Monday night.
The council is looking to upgrade Phillips Street, which runs from the city square to the Green Forest schools. The city received a $101,000 grant to create a median on the street for beautification purposes.

Citizens on hand questioned the need for the project. They noted that other areas of town are in greater need of sprucing up. Mayor Reece said the city has entered into no binding agreements concerning the project, and will look at whether or not to move forward with the work.
