In response to the Leap Day tornado of 2012, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals has presented the Taney County Health Department with a 12-thousand dollar grant.
The money will be used to purchase a 28-foot enclosed trailer for equipment storage and immediate deployment in response to a disaster.
Following the Leap Day tornado, the ASPCA collaborated with Pet Smart Charities and donated animal care kits to the community. The kits included dog crates, pet cages, feeding bowls, leashes, cat litter boxes and food.
One-hundred, seventy-five of the care kits were given to area residents, allowing families to keep their pets with them and provided shelter and care needed during their transition.
The money will provide the necessary resources to begin the process that will ensure the safety and care of animals in future response efforts.
