The beautification project for Phillips Street from the Green Forest Square to the School has been set aside for now.
The project would have included a green strip dividing the road in half with plants and buses down the green space.
Residents of Phillips Street got a petition together and came to a City Council meeting and loudly protested to the Council they did not want the street divided and thought the money could be spent elsewhere.
A $125,000 beautification project grant from the State will be returned according to Mayor Charlie Reese.
Green Forest is asking its citizens to approve a 1.25% sales tax increase, April 9th, to pay for needed equipment for the Fire Department and Police Departments. If the sales tax does not pass, the city faces the possibility of increased insurance rates. The city is eliminating property tax for its residents to off-set the sales tax increase.
