Arkansas and Missouri regional rehabilitation services at Mercy Hospital Springfield is getting a new home. The current service offered at Level 1 trauma center has outgrown the 35 beds available. The new 63-thousand (63,000) square foot facility will have 60 beds and provide inpatient rehabilitation to those who are recovering from strokes, brain or spinal cord injuries and other conditions.
Medical Director for rehabilitation at Mercy Hospital Springfield Dr. Hollis Bell says the new facility will provide the room they need and lift the spirits of their patients.
Unique features will include an apartment where patients and families can practice daily living tasks, dedicated rooms for burn patients, a dedicated stroke unit with specialized equipment, pet therapy and more.
Groundbreaking was Monday. The 28-million dollar Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital will take nearly a year to complete.
