Flippin, Arkansas police who responded to a call about a man who had allegedly broken into a Flippin apartment complex and assaulted a woman early Friday morning, witnessed the man chasing the woman through parking lot of the apartment complex when they arrived on the scene.
Thirty-seven-year-old Newton Wood of Flippin was taken into custody without incident, according to Flippin Police Chief Dusty Smith, and he is charged with felony residential burglary, and misdemeanor counts of terroristic threatening and assault in the first degree.
Chief Smith said Wood is charged with breaking into the woman's apartment and then threatening to harm her and choking her. The woman was able to break free from her attacker and run.
Newton Wood was taken to the Marion County Jail and his bond was set at 20-thousand dollars. Wood is also on a no-bond hold pending a mental health evaluation.
