No major last day filings in Marion County yesterday, but Marion County voters will have plenty of choices for the county top executive position as five people--two Democrats, two Republicans and one Independent will vy for the county judge's seat in the May and November elections.
Incumbent Democrat James "Pete' Giles will be opposed in the May Democratic Primary by Roger Barrett. In the May Republican Primary former County Judge Charles Trammell and David Barnes will square off with the two primary winners to face Independent Gary Foster in the November general election.
Races also developed for Marion County Coroner and County Surveyor. Incumbent Dan Duren, a Democrat has drawn opposition from Republican Jim Raley while Democrat Rob McMath and Independent Keith Sullivan are both seeking the surveyor position.
Two Quorum Court races also developed in Marion County with District 5 Republican Carnes McCormack drawing opposition from Republican Terry Ott. In District 7, Democrats Randy White and John LaRochelle with face each other in the May 18th Primary with the winner facing Republican John Kennedy in the November election.
Incumbent Sheriff Roger Vickers, Circuit and County Clerk Dee Carleton, Assessor Glenda Treat, Collector Cathy Brightwell and Treasurer Shirley Ply drew no opposition.
