An Arkansas man will spend six months in federal prison for digging up artifacts along the Buffalo National River in Newton County. William Graves was sentenced in the US District Court in Harrison for violating the Archeological Resources Protection Act of 1979.
He and his wife Misty Graves were arrested last January by National Park Service officials. They were in possession of digging tools and boots that matched impressions left in recently-excavated looter holes.
Misty Graves was sentenced under one misdemeanor count and received one year of supervised probation. The two have also been ordered to pay 4-thousand-600 dollars in restitution to the park.
