James Leroy Cowan, age 87, went to meet the Lord December 23, 2012 at Bristol Pointe Health and Rehab in Harrison. He was born November 12, 1925 to Mark and Cora Young Cowan in Harrison.
He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a World War II Army veteran. James was a brick mason, handyman, carpenter and later retired from Emerson Electric where he was a machine set-up man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Reba Nell Clark-Cowan; a sister; and five brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Claudette Dean Cowan of the home; son David Clark Cowan of Elkins, Arkansas; step-son Chris Gardner; daughter Leta Anne Russell of Fayetteville, Arkansas; step-daughter Sharon Pratt; brother Earnest E. Cowan; sister Betty Frances Moore; sister-in-law Jeanette Shaddox; three sisters-in-law in Georgia; ten grandchildren: Kyle Cowan, Kaedy Cowan Carl, Jantzen Russell, Tyler Russell, James Michael Pratt, Justin Pratt, Morgan Gardner, Jessica Anderson, Michael Gardner; five great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday December 28, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Harrison with Dr. David Artman officiating and Michael Gardner speaking. A visitation will be 6-8:00 PM, Thursday at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grubb Springs Cemetery following the services.
Pallbearers are Michael Gardner, Gene Moore, Stacy Cowan, Tracy Cowan, Jim McFarlan, and Derek Moore. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Heathstone Sunday School Class.
