Jewell B. "J. B." Whitehead, age 90, of Western Grove, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012, at his home. He was born May 9, 1922, in Angelina County, Texas, the son of John Jesse and Anna Bertha (Harrell) Whitehead. J. B. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vina Marie Whitehead; his grandson, Luke Jason Whitehead; his great-granddaughter, Jaden; four brothers; and two sisters.

J. B. was of the Baptist faith and a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas. He was a World War II veteran who received the Purple Heart for wounds received in duty. He married Vina Marie Ricks on September 2, 1942. He enjoyed gardening and hunting.

J. B. is survived by his son, Jerry B. Whitehead, of Western Grove; his daughter, Vina Frances "Vicky" (Whitehead) Rice, of Oak Grove, Arkansas; his sister, Gladys (Whitehead) Massengil; his brothers, Luther C. Whitehead and Wilton J. Whitehead; four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a host of other family; and many dear friends.

Visitation is 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 18, 2012, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Graveside funeral service is 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Jaden's Memorial Garden Cemetery, with Bro. Terry Eddings officiating.

Pallbearers are Shane Walton, Cecil Whitehead, Eric Street, John Bettica, Travis Whitehead and Wes Phillips.

Honorary pallbearers are Justin Martin, Linwood C. Whitehead and Sam Permenter.
